Christmas & New Years Run & Cruise

Cristine

Dec 22, 2013 to Jan 1, 2014

Introduction to Our Running Experience:

Our fully-guided and paced running tour will offer four training runs from 5 K to 21.1 K covering the highlights of each Caribbean destination and then provide the challenges of two timed events in South Florida after the cruise. For the training runs, pace groups will be divided from expert to beginner, with walkers also invited. Water bottles will be provided at the beginning of the cruise and need to be carried on all training runs. The two Florida races will provide drinks along the race route and at the finish.

Gord Hobbins

has extensive experience in all facets of our sport from track running to ultra events and trail races, and has participated in running events throughout North America. The human body, obviously, is a miraculous thing. Nobody knows that better than Gord Hobbins, owner of Gord's Running Store in Calgary and a key figure behind Alberta's boom in running as a lifestyle. An ultramarathoner himself, he even stages his own race, Gord's Frozen Ass 50, held early each February.

"People can surprise themselves at these great distances," he says. "It's all about your mental toughness when you hit the wall, whether you can pick yourself up and carry on." All body types, he reports, have an opportunity to do well, part of the reason why ultras are gaining popularity within the sport. "Ultras are fun because they also give serious racers a great excuse to go slower." As for training, there's not much more one can do than what goes into preparing for competitive marathons. "What I suggest," says Hobbins, "is that runners strive for three-hour training runs where they still feel good afterwards. And once they get to the race, here's the big tip: walk uphill, jog along the flats and run downhill."
